Replaces Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples' Day

Replaces Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples' Day

What problem does it solve? While Columbus never set foot on continental US, a Columbus Day was fabricated to justify colonization and genocide of indigenous people who lived on this land since 10,000 BC, Indigenous Peoples' Day represents a honest and fair representation of American values, and raise awareness of the trauma and pain indigenous people have been subjected to colonization to this day. What is your solution and who does it apply to? By changing the Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples' Day, New Jersey would join Hawaii, Oregon, South Dakoda, and New Mexico to raise awareness of the people native to New Jersey. What is the anticipated impact? Other than awareness of affirm the incredible legacy of the indigenous people who were in the North American continent long before Columbus, it also allow the state to take a stand against racism and white washing of American History.
