Financial Incentives for Obtaining Professional Licenses

Financial Incentives for Obtaining Professional Licenses

What problem does it solve? Many engineers hope to obtain a Professional Engineers (PE) License. Within the Department of Transpiration there is no incentive or benefit to earning this license. As a result, many productive young engineers leave the State once they obtain their PE license, often earning much more in private industry. What is your solution and who does it apply to? Provide a financial bonus and/or a promotional advantage to engineers who have their PE license. My specific example applies to engineers, but there are numerous other examples of professional licenses. What is the anticipated impact? Retain the brightest, most promising young employees and prevent the loss of some of the states most productive workers. The financial cost will easily be offset by the increased productivity from the best employees.
