Upgrade Computer Hard Disk Drives to SSD's

What problem does it solve? Applications take a LONG time to start on aging computers, sometimes even minutes. But there is no money for new computers. Until money is found, this is an intermediate solution that takes about 1/5th of the cost of a new computer that can breathe new life into the "dinosaurs" that still use HDD's. What is your solution and who does it apply to? Has there been an employee who has left their cubicle for a cup of coffee, come back, and found that their computer is still in the middle of booting? How about if Windows asks them to update, they click yes, and then they can't do work for half an hour because Windows is in the middle of installation. Maybe an employee has multiple jobs to do and they have to keep switching apps? But they have to wait every time because the apps take an aggravating long time to start? Because it can take so long, many employees hesitate to shut off their computer / close applications / install updates. However, by doing so, computer performance tends to degrade over time. My idea applies to the many employees who need to use a computer for their work but their computer still uses a Hard Disk Drive. I propose immediately replacing Hard Disk Drives with Solid State Drives to significant improve productivity, improve computer stability, and reduce computer-related stress. What is the anticipated impact? Many departments do not have the budget to replace their aging computers. However, just replacing one part on these computers can make them seem like new again. Aside from the cost of the SSD's, they are basically the silver bullet for aging computers when it comes to what they bring to the table. - Windows boots in under a minute. Many under 30s - Installations can take 75% less time, - Apps take seconds to start instead of 10s of seconds. - They take about 5W to power compared to an HDD's 12W - They last far longer before they die. HDD's can fail within 5 years. SSD's tend to last 10. - Because there is less wait time, people may reboot more often and computers will tend to work better. Cons - Not affected by magnets so wiping can't be done by running a magnet. - Price. A 250 GB SSD will cost around $50 compared to $20. Further explorations: - Use SATA SSD's for cost savings. PCIe SSD's will cost too much for too little gain. - Need a way to fast-track procurement process
