Flex Week

Flex Week

What problem does it solve? Cuts down on overtime and would be good for morale What is your solution and who does it apply to? Work 6 days a week and only get paid for 5. Then every 5 weeks you earn a week off for flex time What is the anticipated impact? Not only will this cut down on stress and overtime but it could also cut down on sick time. this will not affect earned vacation time either

Points

adding an extra day to the work week seems like a large burden to take on to get a week off every 5 weeks. I think this could be offered to those it works for in addition to the option of working 10 or 12 hour days to have a quicker return on the day off, by instead working a 4 day week. Add in a telecommuting option and all of these offerings together would make a complete flexible schedule template.

Managers looking to create a flexible work culture should avoid a one-size-fits-all approach; dictating exactly how these policies may be used can make them less effective. Talk with your team about your expectations, so there are no surprises later on. For example, if you set a policy that employees may arrive late or leave early when they need to, do you want them to give you advance notice? Of course, trust is going to be a big factor. you should trust them to get the work done.

This suggestion maybe not work well for every unit or team in the state. My unit supports telecommunications and we do a lot of after hours works so we will not affect phone service during business hours. This would work well for teams that are required to do some of their work off business hours. We could do software and hardware upgrades that are service affecting without disrupting the staff that we support.
